EMDR

A PROVEN METHOD THAT HELPS THE BRAIN TAP INTO ITS NATURAL ABILITY TO HEAL FROM INJURY.

Your brain wants to heal and sometimes it just needs a little help.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR, a proven therapy that helps people reprocess difficult or traumatic memories while addressing the underlying negative beliefs they have come to believe about themselves or the world due to painful experiences or traumatic events.

With EMDR your brain learns to tap into its natural ability to heal so it can process painful memories in a healthier way.

You may not know this… when trauma happens, the part of the brain that keeps track of time shuts down.

Memories can get “stuck” in the part of the brain that doesn't know the trauma is over. That's why people can keep feeling the effects of trauma long after it's ended.

EMDR helps reconnect those stuck memories to the brain’s full memory system. As a result, the emotional pain linked to the memory fades, and the brain understands that the trauma is in the past.

The story shifts from “something bad is happening to me” to “something bad happened to me.”

This shift helps you live more fully in the present, with more control over your emotions and reactions.

EMDR can help you…

Process and heal from both Big ‘T’ and little ‘t’ traumas

Overcome your anxiety and increase your confidence

Decrease problematic substance use and eating disorder behaviors.

Change negative belief and thought patterns

Be engaged in the present instead of feeling stuck in the past.

Feel connected to your true Self and others.

Heal traumatic childhood experiences.

Through EMDR therapy, you can reclaim your life.

You can break free from the past and fully embrace the present and future.

Imagine waking up each day feeling strong and ready to face whatever comes your way.

You’ll find more space to appreciate the beauty around you, build deeper, more meaningful connections with others, and reconnect with the person you were always meant to be.

You’ll live more in tune with your values, experience greater self-acceptance, feel a profound sense of relief, and move confidently toward your goals.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) follows an eight-phase approach, which includes history taking, preparation, assessment, desensitization, installation, body scan, closure, and reevaluation. It has been shown to effectively reduce symptoms of PTSD and is also beneficial for treating anxiety, phobias, depression, and addiction. As trust is built, information is gathered about your personal history and the pivotal experiences that have shaped who you are today.

Together, we will work to identify the painful memories or areas where you feel stuck, along with the negative core beliefs that contribute to emotional distress or physical reactions. These underlying issues, often hidden beneath current symptoms and challenges, will become clearer. Difficult life experiences often lead to the development of core beliefs such as, “I am in danger,” “I am unlovable,” “I cannot handle this,” “It’s my fault,” or “I am responsible.”

With a plan tailored specifically to your needs, we will build a foundation of resources—both internal and external—equip you with healthy coping strategies, deepen your understanding of your nervous system, and help prepare you to address and heal from painful past experiences, core wounds, or traumas.

  • By using bilateral (back-and-forth) stimulation—typically through eye movements, tapping, or handheld buzzers—EMDR helps process painful memories that are stuck, distressing, or stored in the body. These memories will no longer trigger intense emotional reactions. Instead of the memory feeling like an open wound, it becomes more like a scar: a part of your story, but no longer a source of significant pain.

EMDR does not erase the memory, but it removes its power over you, allowing you to move forward without it interfering with your life.

  • You and I will then identify a healthier belief about the memory, strengthen it through more bilateral stimulation while making sure your body is not holding on to any tension or distress surrounding the memory.

Once this is complete, you and I will re-assess the work.
